- step: international travel to Locarno, Switzerland
The closest international airports to Ascona are Zurich (Switzerland) and Milano Malpensa (Italy). Getting from ZRH to Monte Verità will take about 4 hours, from MXP to Monte Verità about 3 hours.
From Zurich airport, take a train in the airport to Zurich main station. This train runs several times per hour, the ride takes about 10 minutes. From Zurich main station, take a train to Locarno (either direct connection or change trains in Bellinzona). From Milano Malpensa airport, take a train from airport terminal T1 or T2 to Lugano. Then switch to a train to Locarno. For time tables and ticket prices, please consult the website of the Swiss national railway (SBB; From Malpensa Aeroporto T1 (or T2) To Locarno).
2. step: transfer from Locarno to Monte Verità
On June 16, a conference shuttle will run six times between Locarno main station and Monte Verità. The shuttle will depart from Locarno main station at 14:00, 14:40, 15:20, 16:00, 16:40 and 17:20, and bring you directly to Monte Verità. Information on how to find the shuttle at Locarno main station is available here.
On June 21, the shuttle will depart from Monte Verità at the following times and will bring your directly to Locarno main station: 11:00, 11:40, 12:20, 13:00, 13:40, 14:20.
To get from the Locarno main station to Monte Verità, you may also take
a taxi (approximately 30 SFr for a 15 minute ride), or
bus no. 1 from Locarno main station to Ascona Centro (for time tables, please consult the website of the Swiss national railway; From Locarno, Stazione To Ascona, Centro). Then walk for approximately 20 minutes: head towards the post office, continue along "Via del Borgo" to the Boutique Hotel & Ristorante Antica Posta, turn right towards "Scalinata della Ruga." At the end of the steps, continue along "Strada Collina" until you reach the entrance of the Fondazione Monte Verità. Note that Monte Verità is on a "monte," so you'll have to walk up hill.
